I’m not sure I can quantify what (writing) means to me in words. It’s all I know, all I do, all I live and breathe every day. Without writers I wouldn’t be here right now. The least I can do is give back to the world and teach others the joy that I feel writing every single day.Bethany Shepherd, full-Time writer, currently working on many projects including her Masters in Creative Writing, co-tutor
Everyone has a story inside of them, whether based in fiction or fact, and sometimes all it takes is for someone to hand you a toolkit and encourage you to get on and write.Amy Gash, owner of Le Stylo Noir Writer’s Retreat, author of literaryscribbles.com, co-tutor
In light of the ongoing pandemic, and how unsure we all are of travelling, we’ve decided to offer an online course in October.
When? 26th to 30th October (depending on the popularity of this course, another date may be added).
What? Introduction to Novel and Short Story Writing Course. It will last 5 days and run for 4 hours a day.
Where? Over the internet. Possibly Facebook or Zoom (this will be decided between the tutors, closer to the time). Every person attending will be emailed with more information on this closer to the time.
What do I get with it? Full tutoring, in a small group, by two tutors online. Once you’ve finished the course, if you’ve any work you’d like looking over after a few months, you can send a maximum of three pages to the Retreat email and one/both of your tutors will read it through and give you feedback*. Your name and email will be taken at the beginning of the course so that, if you book a stay at the Retreat and visit within 2021**, you’ll receive a special goodie basket in your room on arrival.
Price? £100 for the full 5 days. Payment’s due in full at least one week before the start of the course. Payment will be done over PayPal, so the price can be translated into other currencies (e.g. US Dollars). Cannot be refunded. Cannot be paid, partly or fully, with any vouchers.
What Will I Learn? Example Itinerary:
Day One: We’ll talk about what makes up a story, the difference between a short story and a novel, and the basics on making characters.
Day Two: The basics of how to plot a story and how to write description.
Day Three: How to design a scene and write speech.
Day Four: We’ll work on anything that along the way the group feels like they need more practice in/a better understanding of.
Day Five: We’ll teach you the basics of editing: how to layout your work, spelling and grammar, the fundamentals of planning etc.
By the end, our aim is to give you a toolkit you can take forward with you and help you finish writing your story.
